Kajaks wins Club Challenge in 2005 Lower Mainland Cross Country Series: results on the BC Athletics site (PDF).

December 5/05 - Kajaks results at the Canadian Cross Country Championships: 
Senior Men's team - 2nd place: Ryan Hayden, Jerry Ziak, Mark Bomba, Graeme Wells, Mike Tighe, Aaron Heidt. 
Masters 50+ Team - 1st place: Maureen De St. Croix, Fred Pawluk, Alex Jamieson, Jake Madderom.
Individual: 
Maureen de St Croix - 50-54, 1st
Jane De Lemos - 40-44, 7th
Fred Pawluk - 55-59, 3rd
Jake Madderom - 60-64, 1st
Alex Jamieson - 60-64, 2nd.
It was good to see Jon Kruzeniski back in action again, coming in 69th in the Junior Mens' race.

December 4/05 - Canadian Cross Country Championships: Congrats to the Senior Men's team, who came second, and the Masters 50+ team who were 1st. The event was held yesterday, Dec 3rd, at Jericho Park in Vancouver. Full results on the BCA website.


November 29/05 - lots of updates:

Peter Cook will be assisting Chris Dalhuisen with coaching, Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Congratulations to Aaron Heidt and Mark Bomba of Kajaks, selected to the BC Athletics Senior Mens' team for the 2005 Canadian Cross Country Championships to be held December 3rd at Jericho Beach Park in Vancouver.

Head Coach Richard Collier has declared the Kajaks Senior Mens' Team for the same race. The team members are:
Ryan Hayden
Graeme Wells
Bruno Mazzotta
Mark Bomba
Jerry Ziak
Mike Tighe

Other Kajaks confirmed entries are Maureen de St. Croix, Jane de Lemos, Jake Madderom and Fred Pauluk who will all be taking part in the Masters' events.

BC High School Provincial Cross Country championships
Brittany Imlach was the top Kajaks finisher at the BC High School Cross Country Provincial Championships (held at Abbotsford on November 5th) finishing in 13th place. The top male finisher was Jordan Mara in 25th place. Other Kajaks top 50 finishers in the girls' event were Linda Stutz (29th), and August Griffin (49th); and in the boys' event were Paul Hegele (37th), Spencer Jackson (45th), and Evan Dunfee (47th).

November 28/05 - Club Team Prize Money Details for Ice-Breaker 8k

November 16/05 - Updated training information for 9-12 year olds

November 2/05 - Ryan Hayden of Kajaks won the 35th Annual ING James Cunningham Seawall race (held October 30th in Stanley Park) in fine style, running the fastest time since 1990. In spite of the drizzle, he turned in a very impressive time of 28:25 min. for the 9.5km distance, (equivalent time for 10K is 29:56). See the Canada Running Series website for a full race report, including a picture of Ryan crossing the finishing line.
Graeme Wells of Kajaks finished 5th in 30:09. Other runners included Superman, a pumpkin-headed rabbit and a cave-girl.
Ryan Hayden is one of Kajaks' star senior athletes, and a sub-4 minute miler. Ryan had a busy day... he had been invited to present the awards at the BCJD Awards lunchtime Banquet.

October 5/05 - Nine Kajaks athletes are among the BC Athletics Junior Development Awards recipients for 2005. Angus Taylor and Evan Dunfee each set two BC Records; Angus in Hammer and in Shot Put, and Evan in Racewalks (1500m and 3000m).

BC Elementary & Junior High Schools Cross Country Meet (Oct 8) Last chance to get in your volunteer hours. Help needed starting at 9AM.

BC X-Country Champs, Crescent Park, South Surrey, October 22: Races start at 10AM Check out  www.bcxcchampionships.com. Let's get as many club members out as possible - all ages.

Rick Whiting is coaching JD's 9-12 Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30pm at Minoru.

Head coach, Richard Collier, has announced the resumption of throws coaching. 5pm Mon, Tue, Wed, Thur at Minoru.

September 10/05 - Congratulations to Kajaks Masters' athlete Maureen de St. Croix on her excellent results at the World Masters Athletics Championships in San Sebastian, Spain (Aug22-Sep3). Competing for Canada, Maureen won the 800m in 2:21.31, and finished 2nd in the 1500m in 4:46.11 in the F50 category.
Maureen is the current Canadian record holder for Masters W45 and W50 in both 800m and 1500m. Way to go, Maureen!

September 5/05 - Results from Labour Day Weekend 8k posted. Updated Sept 8.

August 12/05 - Kajaks athletes struck gold at the Legion Track and Field Championships, held in Edmonton, August 6-7th, helping the BC/Yukon team to a second place finish.

Trey Henderson set a Canadian Youth record and a Meet record by throwing 65.53m to win the Juvenile Mens' Hammer event. He also won silver in discus. Gabrielle Payne won gold in the Womens' High Jump with a jump of 1.70m, and also gold in the 4x100m relay. Leo Murray won silver in 100m, 7th in Long Jump and silver in 4x100m relay.

In the 15-year old category, Angus Taylor and Kris Burleigh dominated the Men's Throws, with Angus winning both the Discus and Shot Put events, and Kris winning the Javelin, placing 4th in Shot Put, and winning silver in the 4x100m relay.

August 4/05 - Congratulations to Kajaks athlete Jennifer Joyce who broke her own Canadian record at the Trevor Craven meet (July 9-10) with a huge throw of 68.48m. She will be competing at the world championships in Helsinki, August 6-14, accompanied by her coach, Richard Collier.

January 25/05 - Lord Byng Secondary School is going to the Caribbean (Trinidad and Tobago) for a training camp and competition. They still have spots available for outside athletes. The cost is $1500. They will depart on March 12th and return on March 21st. They are particularly short on boys but anyone is welcome, including all athletes from 13-19 years of age. In 2003 they had a very successful trip to Hawaii that included several Kitsilano Secondary and Kajaks athletes.
