The final day of the World Youth games resulted in Canada's only medal of the games, a bronze medal for Canada's Medley Relay Team (400/200/200/800m) with Christabel Nettey running the second leg. Canada's time was 2:09.08, and they just edged out the Australian team for 3rd place. See the Athletics Canada website for the full story.
In individual competition, Sabrina Nettey finished in 8th place in the Long Jump with a jump of 5.96m, and Christabel Nettey also finished in 8th place in the 100m Hurdles in a time of 14.42.

July 14/07: Day 4 at the World Youth Games:
Sabrina and Christabel are in the finals!!
Day 4 has proved the best yet for our club athletes as Sabrina and Christabel Nettey have both qualified for finals in the World Youth Games. Christabel ran a PB of 13.49 to win her heat of the 100mH, followed by a 2nd place finish in the semifinal with a time of 13.53. She is the 4th fastest qualifier in the finals.
In the long jump, Sabrina jumped 6.07m to qualify for the final in long jump, with the 5th longest jump. Christabel unfortunately was eliminated, after jumping 5.88m.
The other Kajaks athlete in action was Evan Dunfee, who came 23rd in the 10,000mRW final in a personal best time of 47:40.86.

Day 3: Heartbreak for Angus Taylor in the discus as he fouled all three throws, to be eliminated from the Discus event.

July 13/07: Day 2 action at the World Youth Games:
Sabrina Nettey just missed out on making the finals of the 100m sprint - the photofinish was needed to separate her from the final qualifier. Both athletes were clocked at 11.91. Sabrina will be in action again in the Long Jump (Day 4).
Angus Taylor also did not make the finals in Hammer (5kg). Angus fowled on his first two attempts, and his final throw of 62.93m gave him 11th place in his group. The qualifying round of Angus's best event (discus) takes place tomorrow (Day 3), which will also see Christabel Nettey in the 100mH qualifying rounds. The final Kajaks athlete to be in action will be Evan Dunfee in the 10,000mRW on Day 4.

July 11/07: After the first day of the World Youth Games in the Czech Republic (Wed. July 11th), Sabrina Nettey has qualified for the semi-final round in the 100m with a PB of 11.84 in the 1st round, followed by a 3rd place finish in the quarter-final with a time of 11.90.
Emma Kimoto's jump of 1.70m unfortunately wasn't enough to get her through to the next round in the High Jump. She cleared 1.70m on her third attempt, and would have then needed to jump a PB to advance. Emma finished in 11th place.
Tomorrow Angus Taylor will be in action in the Hammer Throw qualification round, and Sabrina Nettey in the 100m semi-finals.
You can check all the results at the website www.iaaf.org/WYC07/
