2005 BC Provincial High School Championships

Kajaks JD Athletes were amazingly successful this year in the BC Provincial High School Championships, held June 3-4 in Burnaby, bringing home no less than 3 medals! Racewalkers Heather Warwick finished 2nd in 7:37.18, and Evan Dunfee 3rd in 6:52.54. Angus Taylor had a fantastic meet with a 3rd place finish in Hammer with a throw of 49.91m, and 6th place in the Discus with a throw of 38.23m. Chris Burleigh finished in 15th place in discus, throwing 33.65m, and 19th in Javelin with a throw of 38.77m. All these athletes are in Grade 9, competing against athletes up to Grade 12.

This year, there were some additional events added especially for Grades 8/9 athletes. Grace Ling finished in 8th place in the Grade 8/9 1500m in 5:14.89. Hopefully next year will see more of our JD Athletes competing in these events, as not many schools participated this year.

See the full report (on this website) for details of other Kajaks performances.

1992 2nd David Ling 2818 points

BC JD Championships

The track season finished with the BC JD champions held at Minoru (July 15-17th). Kajaks athletes were out in force, with many excellent performances, including 4 meet records. One was in the 10 year-old age group by Pauljit Bhandal, who has thrown extremely well all season, and threw a personal best of 29.70m to break the previous record.

In the 15 year-old category, Evan Dunfee was in a class of his own in 1500m Racewalk, finishing in a time of 6:41.4, nearly 20s faster than the previous meet record. He also won the 3000m Race Walk in at time of 15:00.46. Evan's performances not only set Meet records, but also BC age-group Championship records. Well done, Evan.

Angus Taylor beat the previous meet record in shot put, with a huge throw of 15.72m. Angus threw 62.30m to win the hammer event, narrowly missing the record of 62.78m set by Trey Henderson of Kajaks the previous year, and also won the discus with a throw of 49.23m. All three of Angus's events put him in the all-time JD top 10 rankings. (Angus went on to break Trey's record at the BC Midget Alternative Meet (Abbotsford July 23-24th) with a massive throw of 62.88m).
