BC Midget Championships, July 7-8
Most of our 15 year old athletes took part in the July 7-8th meet in Nanaimo,
i.e. the BC Midget Championships. At stake was selection to the BC Team for 15
year-olds to attend the Legion Championships. For the best chance of selection,
athletes needed to win their event while also making the standard.
Two of our athletes made the standard in Discus: Alex Dumont won the
event with an outstanding throw of 50.06m while exceeding the standard (44.98m)
by more than 5m, and Emerson Murray also made the standard with his throw
of 45.73m, while finishing in 4th place. Alex's discus throw also puts him in
the "BC All-time Top 10" in discus. Alex also won hammer with a 43.44m
throw, and Emerson Murray also equalled the standard in High Jump, with his 2nd
place finish of 1.79m. Emerson also finished 2nd in Long Jump and 3rd in 100m,
showcasing his all-round ability.
Just out of the medals were thrower Kurt Ostland (4th Shot Put) and
sprinter Tanner Oshowy (4th 100m, 200m), while Gurjot Bal was our
lone distance runner, turning in what looked like personal best times for 800m
and 1500m.
