July 23/12: Kajaks Rocks at 2012 BC Summer Games. This year Kajaks had a number of athletes participating in the 2012 BC Summer Games. Gurleen Bhandal, Meghan Higashitani, Chanell Botsis, Zandalee Uyeyama, Autumn Covington, Samantha Maika, Sara Cathcart, and Alon Aminov and all made the teams for their zones.
The recipient of the W.R. Bennett Award for Athletic Excellence went to our own Kajaks athlete Chanell Botsis.
Chanell earned three Gold medals in women’s hammer (50.19m), discus (33.32m) and in javelin. Chanell also set a new record in javelin with a throw of 43.06m. Chanell is coached by Don Steen in javelin and Richard Collier in hammer and discus.
Our next Gold medal recipient was Alon Aminov who captured the men’s triple jump with a jump of 11.84m. Alon is coached by Byron Jack. Autumn Covington captured the Silver medal in women’s hammer with a toss of 46.58m and set a new personal best in discus with a throw of 31.15m. Autumn is coached by Richard Collier. Meghan Higashitani got a Bronze medal as a member of the women’s 4 x 100m and Alon Aminov’s team placed 4th in the men’s 4 x100m.

July 2/12: Congratulations to Rowan Forseth and Rachel Ruus for their respective wins in the mens and womens categories at the inaugural Kajaks Salmon Festival Mile Run. Also in the womens category congratulations go to Jen Moroz and Susan Gordon for their second and third place finishes respectively. In Mens category congratulations to Jeremy Hopwood and Patrick Riddell for their second and third place finishes respectively.
July 1/12: Kajaks Bulletin: On June 30th Athletics Canada officially announced its team to the 2012 Olympic Games and Kajaks athlete Curtis Moss is one of the team members that will represent Canada at the London Games.
Kajaks would like to congratulate Curtis Moss and his coach, Don Steen on his selection to the 2012 Olympic Games. Both Curtis and Don have worked countless hours to achieve the honour of being named to Canada’s Olympic Team.
We wish Curtis great success at the 2012 London Olympic Games and all of Kajaks is proud to count him as a member of our family.

June 22/12: At the Ocean Athletics Twilight Series, Kajaks javelin thrower Krista Woodward had a new personal best with a toss of 59.34. This is a “B” standard for London 2012.

Kajaks Javelin Thrower Curtis Moss is writing his ticket to London and the 2012 Olympic Games.
At yesterday's 2012 Harry Jerome Track Classic, Curtis achieved the required two B standards of 79.50m necessary to join the ranks of Team Canada for the 2012 London games. Curtis had two
throws well over standard. His first was 80.03m followed by an impressive throw of 80.43m. All Curtis has to do now is finish in the top 3 at the Canadian National Championships and he will be on his way to the 2012 London Olympic Games. On behalf of his Kajaks family we are thrilled with his accomplishments and we wish him all the very best.

May 1/12: Fraser Valley High School Invite records set. Pending approval of an application made on behalf of Kajaks athlete Asianna Covington, a new Canadian & Provincial record was set this weekend at the Fraser Valley High School Invite.
The record was set in Women’s Youth discus with a throw of 48.98m surpassing the Canadian record of 47.34m by 1.63m.
Also a notable performance by Kajaks athlete Chanell Botsis who set 3 new meet records in women’s midget category Hammer / Discus & Javelin.

MILWAUKEE - Samantha Kennedy's freshman record toss of 177 feet, 3 inches in the women's hammer throw at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational has earned the British Columbia native GoMarquette.com Student-Athlete of the Week honors, presented by Audi. Kennedy's mark of 54.03 meters qualifies her for the BIG EAST Confernce Outdoor Championships and is sixth in MU.

April 8/12: Garrett Collier to Lead Track & Field Division of BC Athletics
Richmond: BC Athletics is very pleased to announce that Garrett Collier has been appointed to the position of Track & Field Technical Manager. The appointment comes after the review and consideration of very qualified applicants, said Brian McCalder, BC Athletics President/CEO. “We are very fortunate to have in Garrett an experienced NCAA coach who is also very familiar with the BC Athletics and Athletics Canada programs. He has been a high performance athlete at University (UC Berkley) and medalist while a member of Canada’s National Junior Track & Field Teams plus coaching NCAA Div I Conference and Cdn Championship medalists. All of his achievements will be a tremendous asset for Athletics in British Columbia and Canada,” concluded McCalder.
