Article on Evan Dunfee
The BC High School Provincial meet is taking place May 30-31 at
Swangard. Some of our male athletes who will be competing are Angus
Taylor (DT,HT,SP), Ryan Chester (400mH), Evan Dunfee
1500mRW, Niko Monachini (TJ,LJ,HJ), Gurinder Dosanjh
(DT), Hosam Shahim (HT), Alex Dumont (DT,HT), James
Lee (HT), Emerson Murray (DT,LJ,SP) and Andrew
Nathan (100m,200m).
Among the female athletes are Christabel Nettey
(100m,100mH,LJ), Emma Kimoto (HJ,TJ), Heather Warwick
(1500mRW), Jessica Padrinao (HT,DT) and Stephanie Santa
Cruz (1500m).
Kajaks also have athletes in the Grade 8-9 invitational,
including Pauljit Bhandal (DT SP), Hayley Stewart
(80mH,LJ) and Shai-Anne Davis (100m,200m).

at Norwesters Elementary and Kajaks HS Meet

from Kajaks High School Meet are now posted.
May 4/08: Kajaks were big winners at this year's Richmond
Sports Awards. Racewalker Evan Dunfee was selected as
High School Male, and thrower Angus Taylor won Junior Male.
Both are in Grade 12 and competed at the World Youth track and
field championships in Czechoslovakia last summer. Masters athlete
Steve Hosford won the Masters Male for his domination of
middle distance running in the M55-59 age group, and Head Coach Richard
Collier won for Builder for his work in throws coaching. Some
of the outstanding local athletes he coached are Jennifer Joyce,
Trey Henderson and Angus Taylor.
Kajaks racewalker Heather Warwick, throwers Trey
Henderson and Dariusz Slowik, and coach and masters
triple jumper Byron Jack were also nominated for awards in
various categories.

April 29/08: NEW: Kajaks is now offering an Introduction
to Track & Field - May 5 to July 2, 2008 at
Minoru Track, for kids Grades 3 to 7. All
details in flyer (PDF).
April 24/08: The Kajaks Track & Field Club Board of
Directors is proud to offer the Kajaks Scholarship Award to
eligible club members who are graduating from grade 12. Scholarship

form - closing date May 31st.
April 22/08: Ryan Hayden was the top finisher for Kajaks
at the 2008 Vancouver Sun Run (Sunday April 20th). He came
in third place overall in his second-best time of 29:38. He was
also the first Canadian finisher, behind two Kenyan athletes. Ryan
also finished in third place last year. Evan Dunfee was
47th overall in a time of 33:50 taking 2nd place in the 16-18
category. Rachel Ruus placed 3rd among women 30-34 and 12th
female overall, in 36:23.
Masters athletes also had excellent runs, with Steve Hosford
finishing in 38:43, 3rd in the M55-59 category, and Gwen
McFarlan winning the F70-74 category with a time of 53:28.
Congratulations to them and to all the Kajaks athletes who
competed.

March 27/08: 2008 JD Track &
Field Schedule is now posted
March 26/08: Evan Dunfee had a fantastic start to his
2008 track season (and his first year as a Junior athlete) with a
record breaking time of 43.09 in a 10K Race Walk in Burnaby (March
16th). This time not only qualifies him for the World Junior
Championships later this year, but also breaks the BC Junior
record. Way to go, Evan!

Dariusz Slowik, Trey Henderson, Angus Taylor
Also sharing the Senior Coach award was Gerry Dragomir of
Racewalk West. Among the athletes he coaches are Kajaks
racewalkers Evan Dunfee and Heather Warwick.
Three other Kajaks athletes were nominated for awards, but did
not win. These were Sabrina Nettey (Juvenile Female), Angus
Taylor and Evan Dunfee (Juvenile Male).
